Heel Turn Refresher Class
A heel turn refresher for those who have already completed the sock class, or are already familiar with small circumference knitting using double pointed needles. In this class, you'll need to have already started a sock from the cuff to leg, AND A COMPLETED HEEL FLAP, and be ready to start the heel turn and gusset sections at the beginning of the class.
Skill Requirement: You must be familiar with knitting socks in order to take this class. We only cover the heel turn and gusset portion of the sock, so it is required to have a sock project started on your needles (or a tube, minimum 40 stitches), with the leg length completed, AND THE HEEL FLAP,and ready to start the heel turn and gusset section.
Note: Give the time limit for this class, we are not able to teach the heel flap section so you will have to complete it on your own prior to the class date. If you need any help, please feel free to drop in or contact us. Here's detailed instructions for the HEEL FLAP:
The heel flap is worked back and forth on half of the total amount of stitches on your needles. The remaining half of the stitches will be worked later for the instep. For example, if your total stitch count is 48 stitches, you will be working back and forth on 24 stitches. (for fingering weight, if 60 total stitches, then work on 30sts)
Row 1 (RS): *Slip 1, knit 1; repeat from * to end. Turn your work and begin the next row on the wrong side.
Row 2 (WS): Slip 1, purl to end, turn.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 12 times. (24 rows in total). For fingering/sock weight yarn, repeat rows 1 and 2 17 times. (Your completed heel flap should look like a square).
TIP: -Remember to keep the pattern on the right side rows- “slip, knit, slip, knit, slip, knit…”
-Remember to slip the first stitch on every row in this section - it will help you greatly in picking up the edge stitches in the gusset section later.
