Lucky Tiger KAL

February 12th - April 9th

We're gearing up for our annual winter KAL and we hope you'll join us for the Lucky Tiger KAL. Three quarters of the HKY team are tigers in the Chinese Zodiac, and while we're not true believers, this coming year is considered to be our lucky year - so why not make it the focus of our next KAL?!

The theme for this KAL is based around the animals of the Chinese zodiac - while stripes (tiger) are an obvious inspiration, spots and repeated patterns found on horses, snakes, and other zodiac creatures may be more your thing (or sign!). We're dreaming of projects with repeated lace motifs, in soft colours (for the Rabbits and Rats) and in bold, bright ones (all of you Roosters!).

Don't know what you are? This chart can help! If you're in need of some colour inspiration, check out this lucky colours chart associated with your zodiac animal.

KAL REQUIREMENTS
You must purchase your yarn for the knit-along after January 4th, or during the knit-along until the deadline date, in order to qualify for the prize draw. You must purchase a minimum of 800 yards for your project. If your project does not meet the required yardage, you can still join, but you won’t be able to enter the draw. If you finish your project by the deadline date, your name will enter a draw to win a $60 Handknit Yarn Studio Gift Card! (one entry per qualifying finished project)

If you need some inspiration, take a look at our Ravelry Bundle!

HOW TO JOIN
To join our Lucky Tiger KAL you'll start by choosing a suitable pattern, purchasing your yarn at Handknit Yarn Studio and letting us know you'd like to participate. You can do this via  email, phone, Instagram DM or Facebook Message. Once we hear from you we'll add your name to our official KAL list. On (or before) the final KAL date, April 9th, we ask you to submit your finished project to Handknit Yarn Studio by midnight in order to qualify for the draw.
You can submit your project to us by email, Instagram DM or Facebook Message. If you've been sharing on our Ravelry Forum, please make sure to submit your project  email, Instagram DM or Facebook Message as well.

Bi-weekly Sunday Morning KAL Meetings are currently cancelled due to COVID-19. Instead, please join us on Instagram on scheduled Saturdays at 11am for Knit Cloud!
Knit Cloud is our new regular event to replace our in-person Knit Circle we used to hold in store. During the Colour KAL, please join us on Knit Cloud where we'll host our Summer KAL Meetings as well! We hope you'll want to share the screen with us to show your projects.

There are a couple of ways to get inspired by this KAL's theme: characteristics or colour. Each zodiac animal is defined by certain character traits - Tigers, for example, are brave and competitive leaders. But each zodiac is also associated with lucky colours - here's a quick chart to help you find this year's lucky colours:

Rat: Red, yellow silver
Ox: Pink, emerald green
Tiger: Gray, bronze
Rabbit: Pink, yellow, green
Dragon: Red, ruby, gray
Snake: Light yellow
Horse: White and silver
Goat: Gray, silver
Monkey: Yellow and bright pink
Rooster: Pink and blue
Dog: Yellow, brown, aqua
Pig: Bright red and yellow
